Incumbent Democrat Herb Makima is being challenged in the 1st Commission District by Republican Walter Humphrey, while Commissioner Denise Tryban, a Democrat, and Republican Dennis Hutchinson are vying for the 6th District seat.
Herb Makima was also Vice President of the Northeast Michigan Council of Governments.
Herb said he was 72 during a phone conversation in September, 2001. This would put his birth around 1929.
Herb and Florence Makima lived in the Detroit area until 1968 when they moved to Cheboygan.
