Donald Mensing went by the nickname "Joe".
Don Mensing was a flyer in World War I. He was also chief pilot for the Rummell Air Service, Ltd. of Findlay, Ohio. Later he operated an Airport in Toledo, Ohio and another in Findlay, Ohio. He was last heard from in the 1920's when he was flying booze into Florida from Cuba, Ohio.
Information provided by Sally Corwin in 2003 states that Don was adopted by Mabel Miller's second husband, Tom Corwin. He lived in Findlay, Ohio and was killed outside of Macon, Georgia in his airplane in 1933. Also that he was married to Helen Wingert and they were the parents of her husband, Donald Dudley Corwin.
According to information provided by Murriel Lucille Dangler (wife of Thomas Emery Corwin), after Donald Mensing died his three oldest children went to live at the Ohio Soldier's and Sailor's Orphans Home in Xenia, Ohio. The youngest stayed with his wife, Helen Gertrude Wingert. It was a struggle for her, as this was during the depression.
